Back in December 1936, the Lucca Grill was founded by the Baldini brother – John and Fred. It’s uncertain whether they fully grasped the significance of their endeavor at the time. Undoubtedly, launching a new restaurant during that era posed considerable challenges. As children of immigrant parents from Lucca, Italy, the Baldini brothers embarked on their business venture amidst the final years of an economic downturn in their adopted country. Despite the harsh business climate in Bloomington during that period, the brothers remained steadfast in their passion and dedication.
From its traditional tin ceilings to the antique, elegant mahogany bar, the Lucca Grill presents a welcoming, family-friendly atmosphere. Even after so many years in operation, the passage of time has not diminished the appeal of the restaurant.
The charm of another era continues to appeal to residentis of Bloomington who enjoy great Italian American fare. Indeed, many regular patrons of Lucca Grill have been coming here since their childhood. They still enjoy dining at Lucca Grill not just for the great food, but to simply take in the unique, at-home feel of the restaurant.
Because that sense of belonging doesn’t really end, the Lucca Grill continues to be a place where people gather to mark special occasions in their lives. From anniversaries and birthdays to high school graduations or retirement parties, the Lucca Grill is a great location for celebrating important milestones.
