It was way back in December 1936 when the Baldini brothers – Fred and John – founded the Lucca Grill. It’s hard to know all these years later if the pair had any sort of notion of what they were beginning.
Without a doubt, circumstances were pretty challenging during that era and launching a new restaurant was quite an endeavor. The sons of immigrants from Lucca, Italy, the Baldini brothers started their business towards the final years of an economic downtown their new home country had yet to experience. Although the business climate of Bloomington back then was especially tough, the passion and dedication of the brothers was unwavering.
From its traditional tin ceilings to the antique, elegant mahogany bar, the Lucca Grill presents a welcoming, family-friendly atmosphere. Even after so many years in operation, the passage of time has not diminished the appeal of the restaurant.
The charm of another era continues to appeal to residentis of Bloomington who enjoy great Italian American fare. Indeed, many regular patrons of Lucca Grill have been coming here since their childhood. They still enjoy dining at Lucca Grill not just for the great food, but to simply take in the unique, at-home feel of the restaurant.
Because that sense of belonging doesn’t really end, the Lucca Grill continues to be a place where people gather to mark special occasions in their lives. From anniversaries and birthdays to high school graduations or retirement parties, the Lucca Grill is a great location for celebrating important milestones.
